About Hanz

I care about the art.
I care just as much about the person.

I’m Hanz Zarate—a Los Angeles-born tattooer, founder of 9 Rabbit Tattoo, and someone who believes the best tattoos come from equal parts craft, trust, and honest conversation.

I started tattooing in December 2005. Since then, the work has taken me through Los Angeles, the Pacific Northwest, Austin, Knoxville, and Dallas. Every city sharpened a different part of my eye, but the goal stayed the same: make work with character that belongs on the person wearing it.

Why 9 Rabbit exists

A private studio with room to think.

I founded 9 Rabbit Tattoo in 2025 to create the kind of experience I want every client to have: focused, relaxed, collaborative, and never rushed.

The studio is built for one-on-one appointments and extended consultations. That means we have space to talk about placement, movement, longevity, budget, and what you actually want—not simply what can be finished the fastest.

My strongest work lives where Art Nouveau movement, realism, bold illustration, and a little weirdness meet. I like pieces with readable shapes, confident contrast, and enough personality to feel unmistakably yours.

What matters here

The standard behind the style.

01

Listen first

Your tattoo should feel like you. Good questions come before good drawings.

02

Draw for the body

Composition, placement, and movement matter as much as the image itself.

03

Be honest

If an idea needs to be larger, simpler, moved, or reconsidered, I’ll explain why.

04

Make it last

Clear structure, strong contrast, and thoughtful aftercare protect the work over time.
